お盆で田舎に帰省された方も多いと思いますが、
田舎 ≠ local ではありませんのでご注意下さい。 local は「現地の」「その土地の」と覚えておかれると良いです。田舎には、出身地の意味での田舎と自然溢れる非都会の田舎と２種類あるのではないかと思います。
◆ 出身地の「田舎」は、hometown が一般的です。
I went back to my hometown during the Bon period.
お盆の間、帰省しました
その他、 go home や visit one's parents で「帰省する」「田舎に帰る」という意味になります。
I went home for my Christmas holidays.
クリスマス休暇で帰省した。
I guesss I just visit my parents in Sendai.
多分仙台の実家に帰るだけだよ。
◆ 非都会の「田舎」は、rural や country, countryside が一般的です。
rural は形容詞なので、rural area などにして使います。
An urban area is quite different from a rural area.
都会は田舎とはずい分違う。
（注：rural area は「農村部」と訳されることもあります）
I prefer living in the countryside to living in the city.
私は都会よりも地方に住むほうが好きだ。
Why do you like to live in the country?
どうして田舎暮らしが好きなんですか?
（注：この country には「国」のcountry と同じ単語です）
